Louis Mallette

Louis Mallette works on cases in Tribal courts and administrative tribunals, focusing mainly on employment cases and child dependency prosecution.

Louis ("Louie") previously worked for the New Mexico Law Offices of the Public Defender and the Navajo Nation Department of Justice.  While at Navajo DOJ's Litigation Unit, Louie worked on employment and labor cases, union negotiations, and litigation involving the Navajo Nation in state and federal courts.

Experience

Louie was part of the team that worked on Brackeen v. Haaland, a recent Indian Child Welfare Act case, starting in the Fifth Circuit through its resolution in the U.S. Supreme Court.  He contributed to briefs in other cases in the Ninth and Tenth Circuits and Supreme Court in which the Navajo Nation was a party or amicus curiae.
